Lordship is disposed to think

that you decided rightly that

the present case was not one

for repatriation to England.

Before however arriving at a

de finite decision on this point

it is desirable to ascertai n

whether any relief from public

funds is called for at all in

the present case, His Lordship

therefore requests to be inform-

ed concerning the arrangements

for Wallace's maintenance which

were made in 1686 when Her Ma-

jesty's Minister at Peking was

instructed to consult with the

Crown Advocate in the matter,

as well as concerning the pre-

sent position of any relatives

called upon to contribute to-
